Architect: Vincent Raney -- 1940

This dramatic night time view was a proposal for a movie theatre located in San Francisco's Chinatown. Rendered by Ray Watanabee in colored pencil, Ray had a quick but unique style in rendering. Note how the autos and people are deleneated by "stacking" lines. Be sure to view Watanabee's colored pencil sketch of the Kuhio Theatre Raney designed in 1941 for Consolidated Amusement. Vincent Raney went on to design many movie theatres well into the 1980's. Raney designed many of the "domed" theatres in Northern California for the Syufy circuit (now Century Theatres.)
